As leaders it will be important for us to have a good definition of success that you can use as a measure for your activities through out the year.
I personally like Coach Wooden's definition on page 10: "Making the complete effort to maximize your abilities, skills, and potential in whatever circumstances - good or bad - may exist"
In the next paragraph he separates this definition of success from our present cultures definition: "Sometimes the competition you face will be bigger or stronger, more experienced or better [equipped]. Regardless of the situation you face as a leader, you must believe and teach those under your leadership that success is theirs when together you summon the will to put forth EVERYTHING you have."
So at the end of the day can you win a match and be unsuccessful? Can you lose a match and come away with your head held high? The answer to both ought to be yes if your goal is giving everything you're involved in your very best effort...
Commit to excellence. Be successful.

Instead of having each of you post (which would require me to add you all to a list a trusted users for each blog) I am going to post my favorite quote from the chapter each week. (for example: "Success") In the comments section of this post each of you can list your own favorite quote or idea for the chapter.
I will also post a general question from each chapter that each of you can again remark on in the comments section of that post.
I think this will keep things a little simpler and more organized than having everyone post.

You have been chosen to serve in a capacity of leadership. This is both an honor and a responsibility. We hope you will take pride in the positions you have earned, and we want to help you realize your highest level of leadership potential. "Success-peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did the best of which you are capable." Wooden chooses to define success not as a tangible achievement such as winning a championship, but as doign the best you can. A win is not always success and a loss can be success. It is important for a team to know that even if they win or lose. the game and their performance is not defined solely by the final score.
